The customer didn’t want a lot of decorations but she did want it to look like a bridal cake. This is what i came up with. I made large & small fondant hearts dusted them with silver, the pink flowers were cut from fondant. I placed 2 small doves in the center and covered the rest with a lace design. Flavor was a classic butter cake with vanilla butter cream.
A Shower of Blue
21 SepThis was a fun cake to do. Since it was a square (10″) I decided to make it look like a gift box for the bridal shower. I iced the top in blue, and used a large rose tip to create a band around the top edge to make it look like a box lid. The sides i iced in white with blue swirls. The bow and tiny blue flowers are fondant, the white roses are butter cream. Flavors were marble cake with raspberry butter cream filling and vanilla frosting.
More Cupcakes
6 JulSince this is the bridal season, I have had lots of orders for cupcakes. They are easy to serve for bridal showers. The flavor of these, yellow butter cake with vanilla buttercream. The flowers are buttercream in shades of pink.
Note: The divider in the box to hold the cupcakes was made of wood by my son. Works great to keep them from sliding around.
A Shower of Daisies
21 JunI think daisies make the perfect topping for cupcakes. They cover the entire top and you can either pipe them on or do as I did and make them up ahead, add a few leaves and pop the flowers on. I made 2 & 1/2 doz. for a bridal shower. Flavors were chocolate fudge cake and yellow cake with vanilla buttercream.
Bridal Shower Cake
17 MayThis was a quick and simple cake to decorate. I had the flowers already made so it was just a matter of icing and squaring off the 11×15 yellow butter sheet cake. Most of the decorations for the cakes i’ve had lately are bright and colorful. Colors like hot pinks, purples and lime green. This must be the going trend for this season.
Charm Pull Cake
26 AugThis is a fun cake for a bridal luncheon, bridal shower and even at the wedding. The idea can be traced back to the romantic Victorian era. A bride would hide small charms attached to ribbons beneath the icing of her wedding cake, then each bridesmaid and other selected people would pull a ribbon from the cake. Each charm with its special meaning foretold a coming event in ones life, good luck, romance, or good fortune. The charms make a very nice party favor and keepsake as a remembrance of the event.
Here is one style for the charm cake–a 10″ 2 layer square. The charms are placed just under the sugar flowers with the ribbons cascading across the cake.
Another idea is the “Bride Doll Cake”.
Here the charms are tucked in at the waist with different colors of ribbon.
You can make up your own meanings for the charms but here are a few of the ones I’ve found.
WEDDING BELLS—you will be the next to marry
BABY CARRIAGE—next new mother
PICTURE FRAME—picture a happy life for yourself
ENGAGEMENT RING—next to marry
WREATH—your house will be filled with happiness
TEAPOT—you are a hospitable and generous person
UMBRELLA—you will be showered with lots of love
SHIPS WHEEL—you will lead a life filled with adventure
WISHBONE—all of your wishes will come true
KEY—doors of opportunity will be open to you
SHAMROCK—you will be lucky when it comes to love
SUITCASE—you will travel to exotic and faraway places
Bridal Shower
22 AugA sheet cake with lots of color. The bride was using beautiful pastel colors for her wedding, so that’s what I did for her shower cake. I made air dried butter cream flowers in all colors and placed them on each square and created a nosegay for the center. The overall effect was just what she wanted, simple but beautiful.
