80th Birthday

9 Feb

80th BirthdayThis was a fun cake to do.The  instructions given to me were, enough cake to feed about 100, with the colors of yellow, purple and a “dash” of red. It was up to me to design the cake. I added a small 6″ cake to the side to give the stars and roses some height. Cake flavor, yellow butter with vanilla butter cream frosting. The stars & hearts on wires were fondant , the yellow roses were butter cream. Cake #2 was the same flavor and size 12 x 18. I squared this one-off into 2″ sq’s. (for easy cutting) with a piped rose bud in each square.

July 4th Birthday Cakes

4 Jul

80th Birthday

These two cakes celebrate  two occasions, a birthday and the 4th of July.

#1 a 12″ square. Flavors were marble cake with raspberry buttercream filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. The flowers were buttercream, the stars and the 80  were fondant brushed with gold dust.

#2 a 11×15 sheet cake.

I have been making this young mans cake for many years and since his birthday falls on the 4th he likes it to be red, white & bluebirthday. I keep trying to come up with different designs each year but keep the same colors. Flavor is yellow butter cake with vanilla buttercream, their favorite. The stars are cut from fondant.

Another Starry Birthday Cake

24 May

80th Birthday

I’ve decorated quite a few cakes with this starry theme but this was the first one that the stars had a special meaning.

The 3 large blue stars at the top represented the man’s 3 children, the 6 smaller stars his grandchildren.  I’m not sure what the sun and moon stood for. The 11×15 yellow butter sheet cake was iced in vanilla butter cream. All the decorations were cut from fondant.

Lemon Butter Cake

2 Nov

This cake was for a 80th birthday only they didn’t want the age on the cake, only the name “Lady” along with Happy Birthday. All the flowers were butter cream, the cake was lemon with lemon  frosting. The cake design was very simple and easy to do. On a sheet cake ( this was a 11×15) you have such a large area to work with so i divided it into 2 sections, one for the writing, one for flowers.
