Here it is 14 days into a brand new year and I haven’t taken time to post my new cakes. So, I’ll start with this one. The customer wanted something with bright colored flowers. The flavor was yellow butter cake with vanilla frosting. All flowers were buttercream.
Shades of Pink
2 FebThis cake was ordered by Sarah for her Mother’s birthday. She told me to use pink on the cake but to decorate it how ever I liked. I love to make flowers in shades of one color so I started with a very pale pink butter cream and increased the pink color as I made the roses. I added a few white flowers for the finishing touch. The 3 layer 9″ classic butter cake was iced in almond buttercream.
Charm Cake and Pink Roses
4 Nov
It’s always fun to make one of these cakes. There are so many charms to choose from and each one has a special meaning. Some times people write their own meanings if they want to say something really personal that relates to the wedding party but most often they use the ones that come with the charms. Here the charms are tied to ribbons and tucked under the pink roses on the top. Cake flavor, yellow butter cake with vanilla frosting the roses are buttercream and the tiny pink ones are fondant. Cake size 10″ round with a single 6″ on top. The cake was for a bridesmaid luncheon being held at Morehead City, NC.

A Princess Birthday Cake
22 MarPrincess cakes are so much fun, you can make them as “girly” as you like with lots of frills. This one, a 10″ classic yellow butter cake with vanilla butter cream. I made bright pink roses in varing shades, wrapped the base of the cake in pink ribbon to match the roses and piped dots on the sides with touches of lavender here and there. The wand was handmade from fondant, the star I cut with a cookie cutter and was brushed with silver dust, the handle rolled and brushed with gold dust, a small silver bow added to the handle. The Tiara was purchased.
Note: The Mother was so pleased when she saw the cake saying “that’s exactly what I wanted, a very girly cake” and of course that made ME a very happy cake decorator.
Erin and Jared’s Big Day
14 Mar
The day started out with rain but even that didn’t dampen Jared and Erin wedding celebration. It began with an early morning wedding and ended with a lovely evening reception.
The wedding cake flavors were classic yellow butter with vanilla butter cream frosting. Each tier was covered with a simple dot pattern and wrapped with a bright pink ribbon. Fresh pink roses were placed on the top and on the other tiers of the cake.
The smaller cake to the side was the same flavor topped with a cute Mickey and Minnie Mouse ornament. Mickey and Minnie were included because they hold special memories for the bride and groom.
